# Changelog

All notable changes to the Celestia beamer theme are documented in this file.

## [2.3.0] - 2026-10-05

### Added
- Code style `soft`, the new default: a faint background, the language name
on the right, a hairline only between the line numbers and the code.
- Code style `minimal`: no background; a hairline only with line numbers.
- Environments `code` (always numbered), `code*` (never numbered) and
`results` (console output), with listings and minted.
- pdfLaTeX: warning when the package given by `sansface` does not replace
  the sans font.

### Changed
- Code in a block: no background or language name; aligned with the text of
the block; line numbers on the text margin, with a hairline in the color
  of the block.
- Inline monospaced text 6 % smaller; code keeps its size.
- Native beamer blocks: `framed` instead of `shaded`; `framed` blocks have
  less padding.
- `light=false`, given explicitly: bold text in Bold instead of SemiBold,
  unless `semibold` is given.
- Code keywords and captions in `accenttext`, legible on every palette.
- Font warnings are no longer hidden; the theme no longer loads `silence`.

### Removed
- Undocumented footline template `plain with nav` and fading
  `celestia fade both`.

### Fixed
- `numbers=none` (listings) and `linenos=false` (minted) left numbers or an
  empty gutter.
- A theorem-like environment nested in another one took its title, label and
  options.
- Options without value (such as `sharp corners`) in the optional argument
  of the theorem-like environments.
- Language: babel loaded after the theme clashed with it; without `language`,
the theme now follows babel, polyglossia or the class option.
- Block opacity options default to `auto`; any value, the documented one
included, gives the background of versions 1.x.
- `allserif`: monospaced font in the regular weight with every engine.
- Unknown values of `palette`, `frametitle`, `titlealign`, `headshape`,
  `emphasis`, `decoration`, `light` and `semibold`: warning and default
value; a misspelled native block style falls back to `roles`.
- `palette` without value gave `lumiere` instead of `nordic`.
- Warning when a part of beamer cannot be adapted.
- pdfLaTeX: bold serif titles (`allserif`, `style=editorial`,
`headstyle=rmfamily`) were set in the regular weight.
- Footer hidden on a frame following the title page with
`noframenumbering`, and on the first appendix frame with
  `appendixnumberbeamer`.
- Dark palettes: nearly white track of the progress bar.
- Appendix frames with `appendixnumberbeamer`: negative frame numbers.
- Class options naming a dialect (`british`) or several languages: babel
keeps the main language they give; `acadian` is French.
- Footnotes overlapping the `ruled`, `boxedruled` and `badge` footers
  (styles `editorial`, `chalk` and `design`).
- Native blocks: options other than `title` shown in the title, title lost
after an overlay specification; starred environments missing.
- pdfLaTeX: `mathface=stix` and `libertinus` stopped the compilation;
`fira` and `noto` fall back to `iwona` with a warning.
- Unused counters `th`, `def`, `ex`... no longer created: a document can
  define them.

## [2.2.0] - 2026-10-04

### Added
- Palettes `forest` (forest green and copper), `burgundy` (burgundy and
gold) and `graphite` (graphite grey and orange).

### Changed
- `emphasis=accent`: titles take the accent darkened (or lightened on a dark
background) to a contrast of at least 4.5:1; section pages and discs take
a pale tint of the accent. New colors `accenttext` and `emphasistint`.
- Dark palettes: the `elegant` title band, the `fullbar` footer and the
title bands of `plain`, `card` and `badge` blocks are subdued surfaces
  instead of light bands.

### Fixed
- Section pages after the first footer of a document needed a third
  compilation to get their background.

## [2.1.0] - 2026-10-04

Blocks are styled by role, code gets a hairline and line numbers, and the
settings can change in the course of the document. Existing documents
compile as before; `block=ribbon` gives back the blocks of version 2.0 and
`codestyle=tint, codenumbers=false` its code.

### Added
- Fifteen block styles: `callout`, `ruled`, `underline`, `discs`, `framed`,
  `mast`, `masthead`, `mastbox`, `bracket`, `legend`, `legendbox`,
  `outline`, `badge`, `softbadge` and `card` (the theme now loads
  `varwidth`).
- One option per family of blocks (`theoremblock`, `definitionblock`,
  `exampleblock`, `exerciseblock`...), with `fill`, `nofill`, `rounded`,
  `sharp` or `auto`; options `blockfill` and `blockcorners`.
- Environments `exercise`, `exercises` and `summary` (a document defining
its own `summary` after the theme must use `\renewenvironment`).
- Colors `remarkcolor` and `methodcolor`, designed for each palette.
- `\celestiaset{...}` and the frame option `celestia={...}`: settings for
the rest of the document or for one slide.
- Option `sectiontoc`: outline of the presentation on the section slides.
- Code style `hairline`; options `codenumbers` (`auto`, `true`, `false`)
and `codelabel` (name of the language in the corner of the block).

### Changed
- Default block style `roles`: `callout` for definitions, results and
methods, `shaded` for the beamer blocks, `mast` for examples, remarks,
proofs and activities, `ruled` for exercises, `card` for summaries.
- Default code style `hairline` (was `tint`); wide code blocks whose
language is known have numbered lines.
- One color per type of block, the same in every style; `velvet` has a
  plum block color.
- Python code in four colors of the palette, with `style=python` or
  `language=Python`.
- List marks: the glyphs of the text font (• and ◦) instead of math
symbols; enumeration numbers in the weight of the text.
- Title page, section slides and slide content sit a little higher.
- Retouched block styles: `line`, `bar`, `shaded`, `fullbar`, `plain` and
the native styles; proof titles no longer end with a period.
- pdfLaTeX: code font size and text figures as with LuaLaTeX and XeLaTeX.
- Manual illustrated with slides produced by the theme.

### Fixed
- Division by zero in a document without numbered slides.
- Appendix slides counted in the displayed total.
- Explicit options override the `style` preset in any order; unknown
styles, block styles and code styles fall back to the default with a
  warning.
- Footer hidden on the title page only.
- `standout` and `quote` frames with `fragile`; list marks of `standout`
  frames in the text color.
- Fonts: light monospaced text, `semibold=false` with LuaLaTeX, hyphen
width with pdfLaTeX, bold italic with `light=false`.

## [2.0.0] - 2026-10-01

New default look: frame titles, blocks, code, title page, section pages,
footers and table of contents are redrawn; the palettes keep their colors.
`frametitle=subtle, block=sober, codestyle=bar, titlesize=LargeLARGE,
sectiontitlesize=LARGE, titleweight=bfseries, motif=false` gives the look
closest to version 1.2.

### Added
- Frame title style `ruled`, block styles `ribbon` and `line`, code style
  `tint`; `ruled`, `ribbon` and `tint` are the new defaults.
- Option `motif`: three discs on the title page, the section pages and the
  `standout` frames.
- Option `titleweight`, subsection pages (`\subsectionpage`,
`subsectionpage`), `\titlegraphic` on the title page.
- Components `\source`, `\keyfigure`, `\tablehead`, `\imagepage` and the
  `quote` frame option.
- Presets `celestia` and `stage`.

### Changed
- Seven palettes and six presets are presented; the others are still
  accepted.
- Title page and section pages: large light titles, spaced capitals,
  hairline.
- Frame titles aligned on the margins, on the same baseline on every slide.
- Blocks: pale backgrounds designed for each palette, titles of fixed
height; native blocks follow `language` and accept `[title=...]`.
- Footers, progress bar, table of contents and numbered lists redrawn.
- Formulas in Inter by default (`mathface=inter`); with pdfLaTeX, bold text
  in Inter SemiBold.
- Dark palettes set the text in the regular weight; internal links take the
  color of the text.

### Fixed
- XeLaTeX: light and semibold weights of Inter.
- `gradient` frame title: overfull box on every frame.
- `block=native` with a document command named like a theme environment.
- Starred theorem environments: empty group at the start of the body.

## [1.2.10] - 2026-09-20

### Fixed
- `custompalette` and the color options had no effect.
- Dark palettes: unreadable `sober` and `soft` blocks, bright code borders.
- `\cverb` failed; it is now used like `\verb`.
- Documented options without effect now work: `headshape`,
  `sectiontitlesize`, `subtitlesize`, `footertextsize`, `shownavigation`,
  `nocodeframe` and `twocoltoc`.
- Third-level list mark missing with some math fonts.

### Changed
- Palette colors: lightness corrected for contrast; the accents of
  `petrol`, `imperial` and `mineral` toned down.
- Title page: title and subtitle ragged, without hyphenation.
- Footer text in a tint of the palette, block titles without a dash,
  nested enumeration labels redrawn.
- Home page moved to https://edulatex.xyz.

## [1.2.9] - 2026-09-14

### Fixed
